He graduated from Glasgow School of Art, majoring in Painting, Drawing, and Films. At the beginning of his career, changing his name after Jazzman John Coltrane, he joined up in clubs as a comedian. In 1980, he made his film debut with 'Death Watch'. Robbie often made cameo appearances in the likes of TV shows 'The Young Ones', and 'Blackadder', as well as having small roles in films. He is best known on British and American TV as Fitz - a forensic psychologist who often worked out the cases, in 'Cracker'. For this role, Robbie won a BAFTA TV award (UK), plus an ACE award (US). This led to Robbie being in high demand for the more serious of roles in movies. He starred with Paul Newman in 'Message in a Bottle', and he also starred in two James Bond movies - 'Goldeneye' and 'The World is not Enough'. Robbie has also put his hand to producing, being an executive producer of 'The Planman' (TV) in 2003. As we all know, he has starred in all four of the Harry Potter films to date as the loveable half giant Hagrid. As of yet, it is unclear whether or not he'll be in the fifth movie.
