Professor Minerva McGonagall is the only registered Animagus - a witch or wizard who can change themselves into animals. Her animagus is a tabby cat, with markings around the eyes. These markings correspond to the glasses which she wears. She is the teacher of Transfiguration and is considered to be the strictest teacher at Hogwarts. She is among those teachers who can command the attention of her class without seemingly doing anything. She is both severe looking and very taxing. When Harry is a bit worried about his death prophesy by Prof. Sibyll Trelawney, this is what Professor McGonagall has to say:

"You look in excellent health to me, Potter, so you will excuse me if I don't let you off homework today. I assure you that if you die, you need not hand it in."

It was she who had spotted Harry as he had made that fifty feet dive to catch the falling Remembrall and had him positioned on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team as Seeker. She had also created a trap so as to protect the Sorcerer's Stone from getting into the hands of Lord Voldemort. In the movie, her trap - the Chess Board has turned out to be the most tense of all moments.

She is both brave and courageous. Being a foremost member of the Order of the Phoenix, Professor McGonagall has been doing her bit as and when required though we do not know much of what she has done so far, maybe in the future books, her work for the Order will become more clearer. I hope that in the future books maybe we will get to know a lot more about her private life. Lets wait and see.
